Permanent resident gathering docs
Most of you are reading this post because you are probably interested in Permanent Residence in Canada.
Let’s figure out who is a permanent resident?
1
Permanent resident is a person who has immigrated to Canada, but is not a Canadian Citizen.
2
Visitors, students and workers, even if they have been in Canada for several years, are temporary residents, not permanent residents.
Benefits of PR:
- Live, work and study anywhere in Canada
- Receive most social benefits
- PR can apply for Canadian Citizenship
You have an option to maintain you PR status for life, unless (and why wouldn’t you?) you applied and were granted Citizenship.
To keep you PR status, you must have lived in Canada for 730 days in the last five years.
Some of the documents you can prepare in advance as you plan to apply for PR:
- Reference letters from your employers outside and inside Canada
- Translations by a certified translator of birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, diplomas and transcripts, and other documents not in English or French.
- Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), depending on the program.
- Results of the English or French approved test, depending on the program.
